Unite Against Fascism

One Saturday afternoon I received a call from my teenage son
“Dad come quick the fascists are in town-
They’re handing out leaflets, talking to people

It’s important you get everyone together and come down…
What can I do dad?…You should be here…I’m on my own…
Shall I turn over their tables, chuck their leaflets in the bin
I’ve got to do something and do it quick –
These racists seriously get under my skin”

I put down the garden rake and drove into town
“Dad how do you spell fascism” Irt was Joe’s voice again,
I’ve bought a white T shirt
And a permanent black marker pen

I’m gonner write a slogan –
big and black across my chest
and stand in front of them
It’s a rally for all racists in the south west”

As I sped through the streets I said
“Stay calm, don’t get involved, I think that would be for the best”
But Joe stood like a statue in front of the fascists
with “UNITE AGAINST FASCISM” scrawled across his chest.

He silently posed, arms outstretched in front of the
leaflets of lies and fears – he stood tall.
A young man standing for equality and peace,
A symbol of hope for us all.
